How to use the Just-In Time Method in Production

Just-in-time (JIT) is a method that is used to reduce costs and maximize efficiency in business processes. It allows you to get the right amount resources at the right time. This means that your only pay for the resources you actually use. Frederick Taylor was the first to coin this term. He developed it while working as a foreman during the early 1900s. He noticed that workers were often paid overtime when they had to work late. He decided that workers would be more productive if they had enough time to complete their work before they started to work.

JIT is about planning ahead. You should have all the necessary resources ready to go so that you don’t waste money. Look at your entire project, from start to end. Make sure you have enough resources in place to deal with any unexpected problems. You can anticipate problems and have enough equipment and people available to fix them. You won't have to pay more for unnecessary items.

There are many JIT methods.

  1. Demand-driven: This JIT is where you place regular orders for the parts/materials that are needed for your project. This will let you track the amount of material left over after you've used it. You'll also be able to estimate how long it will take to produce more.
  2. Inventory-based: This type allows you to stock the materials needed for your projects ahead of time. This allows one to predict how much they will sell.

  7. Material-based: This approach is similar to cost-based. However, instead of looking at the total cost for the company, you look at how much you spend on average on raw materials.
  8. Time-based JIT: This is another variant of resource-based JIT. Instead of worrying about how much each worker costs, you can focus on how long the project takes.
  9. Quality-based JIT: This is another variation of resource based JIT. Instead of looking at the labor costs and time it takes to make a product, think about its quality.
  10. Value-based JIT is the newest form of JIT. In this case, you're not concerned with how well the products perform or whether they meet customer expectations. Instead, your focus is on the value you bring to the market.
  11. Stock-based: This is an inventory-based method that focuses on the actual number of items being produced at any given time. This is used to increase production and minimize inventory.
